This guide has EVERYTHING THAT YOU NEED for teaching an entire year of Spanish to 3rd ~ 5th grades! It is intended for use with beginning Spanish students who are learning Spanish as a second language. (It is not recommended for Spanish immersion classes.)

Looking for a guide for younger students? Make sure to check out The COMPLETE Guide for Teaching Spanish to Kindergarten-2nd Grade!

This guide is recommended for teachers of students in grades 3rd through 5th for beginning or emerging Spanish learners.

Each unit is broken into individual lessons that include a corresponding visual aid and a recommended scope and sequence. YouTube videos are also included with clickable links. Several worksheets are provided with each lesson that include age-appropriate activities. As you move through a unit, you can check the box when you’ve completed part of the lesson so that you don’t lose track of your progress.

I recommend following a predictable lesson structure like this:

  • Open with a review of ”La Información del Día” (the day, the month, the season, and the weather) using visual aids.
  • Introduce the lesson with the corresponding visual aid to introduce new vocabulary and phrases.
  • Watch a lesson-related video using the links included with the lesson overview.
  • Include a game or interactive activity to help engage students.
  • Finally, have students return to their desks to complete a worksheet to wrap up a lesson and to reinforce learning. Most worksheets take 10-15 minutes to complete.

Make sure to explain how to complete the worksheet before handing it out!

I recommend printing out all worksheets before starting a lesson and keeping them in a three-ring binder so that you can pull out what you need easily and make copies for your students. I would also highly recommend printing out the visual aids in color and laminating them ahead of time, or you can use the visual aids digitally.

Review all YouTube videos ahead of time to see what will work best for you and your students.

You will probably not use all the recommended worksheets for every lesson. You may pick and choose what will work best for your students considering their academic ability.

Lessons are designed to be flexible so you may pick and choose which lessons to teach in any order appropriate for your students. Happy teaching!

Learning Spanish has never been more fun!
